The global field crop seed market is valued at approximately US$10-12 billion. Syngenta has the third largest market share based on sales.
Syngenta Field Crops include most major crops: corn (maize), soybean, sugar beet, sunflower and winter oilseed rape. Developed using advanced breeding methods, these seeds are tailored for individual geographical regions to be high yielding and reliable. Included in the selection are seeds that are genetically enhanced with built-in insect resistance (Bt corn) or herbicide tolerance (glyphosate-tolerant corn and soybeans).
Market drivers are the relentless pursuit of incremental yield through improved varieties and the opportunity for premium pricing/technology fees accruing to novel traits. Syngenta has a number of leading brands - NK®, GARST® and GOLDEN HARVEST® for corn, NK® oilseeds, HILLESHÖG® sugar beet and several cereals brands.
