Benefits for rural communities
More than 2.5 billion people around the world depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. The success of their harvest each year is critical to these farmers and their families.
We combine our products
and technology with training and engagement in rural communities to help
farmers increase yields and reduce the risk of crop failure. Access
to technology is critical to achieve this.
Using
our technology and conservation
agriculture techniques, labor intensive activities such as hand-weeding
can be reduced, often freeing family members to use the time to improve
their education instead, or pursue other jobs that can further boost the
family income.
We work closely with farmers and distributors to share best practice in crop management and train growers to use our products responsibly and effectively within a program of integrated crop and pest management. This enables them to meet strict quality standards for their produce, opening up new markets and important income opportunities.
An important part of our engagement with farmers is to promote safe use.
Our stewardship programs train more than two million people each year
to use our products safely and effectively. See
stewardship.
Improving health in rural communities
Diseases carried by vector insects such as mosquitoes threaten over 40
percent of the world’s population, mostly rural communities. Malaria
alone infects over 500 million people every year and kills more than one
million.
Our range of vector control and homecare products can improve quality of life in rural communities by protecting homes from mosquitoes and other insects carrying life-threatening diseases such as malaria. See improving health in rural communities.
