Helping growers meet global challenges

Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness. We are committed to sustainable agriculture – farming with future generations in mind. We contribute to that in many ways, for example by raising productivity through innovative research and new technology.

Our company provides two main types of products: seeds and crop protection. These help growers worldwide raise the quantity and quality of their crops.

Over the next 20 years, the world’s population will rise by about another two billion. Calorie demand will grow even faster, as diets in countries such as China increasingly shift to meat.

In much of the world, agricultural land is limited and water scarce. So tomorrow’s growers will have to produce much more food and animal feed with today’s natural resources. At the same time, they will continue growing fibers like cotton, and add crops for fuels such as bioethanol. And agriculture also has to protect the environment, for example by reducing “greenhouse gases”, and preserving natural habitats from the plow.

This all means that growers must increase their yields – the amount of crop per field. Our products play a key role in making that possible.

Bringing plant potential to life

Syngenta was created in 2000. But our experience with plants goes back many decades. All around the world, our scientists work with a vast range of crops in local conditions, and share their insights globally. Syngenta understands the language of plants, and brings their potential to life - in larger U.S. corn harvests, for example, and more vigorous Brazilian soybeans. By enabling smallholders in developing countries to grow an extra crop each year, thus improving nutrition and raising income. Through healthier vegetables at affordable prices, or more beautiful flowers for greater enjoyment. And in many, many other ways.
